The Polka Dot Flea

We made it to the Polka Dot Flea.....

And we had a great time... it was packed. A lot of people came.  We shopped...-

I loved this baby bed.

I even got to see some people I had not seen in a while. That is always fun.

Mosaic dress form.

These are the treasures I got at the flea.... the pillow is filled with Lavender it smells so good.

After we left we went to more of our local Antique stores and I found these two books... I just love old books..... And that was our day, a girls only fun filled day.... We then came home and smoked hamburgers and hot dogs.... Boys were allowed..hehe. (They smoked the meat) Such a great weekend!

All About Maida

While shopping at Adjectives Market, an antique mall here in Central Florida, I came across this lovely set of books. It is an almost complete collection of books about a little girl named Maida. The set is only lacking one in the series.

They were so sweet looking that I decided to buy them. I have already read the first two in the series. The first one is Maida's Little Shop and the Second is Maida's Little House.

These little books are copy righted in 1926. They are written by Inez Haynes Irwin.... I had never heard of these books before. Have any of you? I am thinking they must have been quite popular back then because the series is quite large.....

So for homeschoolers or lovers of vintage books this little series is just so cute! I am thoroughly enjoying the reading of these children's adventures. I suppose I am still a child in my heart.

I hope you are all staying warm. I am staying in, and I believe I may make myself some hot chocolate.

A Summary of Our Summer

This summer started off pretty happily with the purchase of this piece of property in Steinhachee, Florida. We have been looking for years for a piece of property since we go many times every year. All the property was pretty pricey. But I wrote to the man that owned a piece next to my parents get away home and he said he would sell it to us. He offered it way cheaper than we could believe.
As I mentioned before my daughter got engaged and the date is February 15, 2014.

Levi did lots of fishing...

My nephew got baptized in our pool..... This was a happy day.

Although I haven't done very much shopping this summer, I did find a few good things at goodwill. I got this trash can and it was plain. I put a waterslide decal on it and it is going in my laundry room with all of my dressforms.

I found this beautiful comforter at goodwill as well. I plan on using it when my daughter is married and I redo her room into a guest room.

You all know my weekness for old books.... and I found two of these vintage books at good will.

Uncle Authors Bible Book. It has copyrights from 1953.
Lovely!

This has been a strange summer in many ways. With such a mixture of good and bad. We have had near death experiences in the family as well as an actual death.... We have been reminded of the shortness of life.....And you only have one life....We were reminded to live life accordingly....God first, family second, yourself last....that's a little saying we learned at church years ago. And I am reminded that people are the most important thing of all. Hug somebody you love and remind them what they mean to you.

XOXO,

Suit Cases at Sunny Skies

My friend Heather gave me these vintage suitcases Friday.

This is the inside of  the blackish blue one....

You know you have a good friend when she gives you an entire collection of something, but not only did she give me the suitcases.....she also gave me her entire collection of  Victoria magazines. I am so excited about these. I have hours of entertainment at my fingertips.

This is a Waverly advertisement.

This table setting is gorgeous.... thank you Heather for the wonderful gift!

I also scored a major find that I had to share with you. I have always wanted to collect doorstops...but they are pricey. But I was able to get this very small one.

It was probably a bookend from what I have been able to find out....But I just love the colors and I hope that this is the beginning of a collection ;)

Fun Saturday Estate Finds

This morning we were supposed to go to the Fancy Flea...and for some reason I just decided I would just yard sale around instead. I am so glad I did. There was an estate sale in my neighborhood and we really got a lot of stuff. I found these wonderful pink gooseberry Pyrex bowls for $4.00. I love Pyrex and pink Pyrex can get real expensive....

I love mixing bowls...don't ask me why... I didn't need this one but it spoke to me with it's vintage shape, and for $3.00 it found a new home.. with me ;)

By the time I got around to the jewelry my daughter had gotten some really great things. Most of these are Avon and look as if they were never worn.  All for $1.00 each. She had been wanting a recipe journal and she found a brand new Paula Deen Journal...for $1.00.

I thought this necklace was perfect for fall...

This bracelet is very similar to the ones sold in Victorian Trading Co. catalouge. It is a vintage Avon....$1.00.

I love these Christmas pins.... so pretty $1.00 each.

Now this is a set... I just love them. They are brand new and never used, one is a photo album and one is a journal... I can't wait to fill them. ($1.00 for the set)

Old books.... Uncle Tom's Cabin was one of them. I have never read this book and I thought that I should... This has been a year of classical literature for me. I am enjoying reading these great books.

Lastly I picked up some old Florida history books for my Dad. He loves to read true historical books about Florida. I think he will enjoy them...
I have always loved yard sales and thrift shopping...I am glad that my daughter enjoys it too... Actually all of the women in my family enjoys it. We have so much fun! One of the great things about it is if you get tired of something. You really haven't lost much. You can give it away or sell the item and not lose much.... I hope you all have a blessed weekend...

Love to you,
Amy Jo

Found Treasures

I know, I know, I haven't changed my porch decor... It is still very warm here and I haven't felt like changing it.... but I think I will this week.

"Marigold brought the big  white box into her mother's bedroom and put it on the bed. Her eyes were shining and her lovely red-gold hair caught the sunlight and flamed gloriously, lighting up her happy brown eyes with topaz glints."
I have been enjoying reading Grace Livingston Hill. She was a Christian author in the first part of the last century... I love her books, and after buying them I realized I have read quite a few of these years ago. But, I really love them and want to collect them all if possible. One that is not showing that I bought is Rainbow Cottage. If you can get a copy of any of her books, I don't think you will be disapointed!

I found these adorable cottage napkin rings at Goodwill.

They were orginally 3.99 a piece and I got four of them for 2.99. I think they are so darling... I can't wait to use them in the spring.

Blessings,
Amy Jo

Vintage Finds

Over the weekend, my daughter and I went out to do one of our favorite things.... Antique shopping. Now I never go out with an idea of buying, but some how, I always find something. :) These prints were in a booth and I don't know why, I just fell in love with them. What am I going to do with them you ask? I haven't a clue... but eventually they will find a home in my house.

I actually could see them in a bathroom. They are really quite large and have presence about them... aren't they darling?

I got this book for 3.00. It had such lovely pictures in it and I have been wanting to grow my own cottage garden...

maybe one like this....

 or this.....

Yes it would be wonderful!

I also picked up this children's book. I love old children's books. The illustrations are just wonderful.

What a lovely depiction of Jesus with the children.

Thy kingdom come Thy will be done;

This is my favorite illustration in the book.  I like to display these so anyone can pick them up and get a little inspiration.

Blessings,
Amy Jo
