A Glimpse Into Chantilly

Well girls, I have been working on my booth for a week and I thought I would give you a peek inside. There is still tons to do! The store called early and said I could set up  and I thought I should. Ready or not.
I have already sold four picture frames, the little 1950's chair and a pillow!

I still have lots of work to do.... but it is moving along. I will show you more after my dear hubby gets in here and helps...LOL. ( I need him to build me a few things)

Fab Finds (cheap) and The Beginning of the Remodel

Happy Friday!! I found these beautiful plates yesterday for $5.00 each! I am going to hang them in the kitchen.

I also found 10 yards of cotton lace trim for $6.00. We were at the antique mall and I couldn't believe how low the prices were. It actually worried me a bit since I am in the process of setting up my booth.

And let the fun begin!! The first day, Wednesday, Everything was tore out.

Then we brought back in the tub to play around with. We wanted to see where we would put everything.  Day one down...

The second day Dad came back and they started the removal of the floor.

I could not believe the dust that went everywhere!  We are not even sleeping in our room because it smells of dust and dirt.

Once day two was complete this is what it looks like. Now we have to wait for the plumber to come Monday and run all the new plumbing lines. Then they will pour the concrete back in. (Thank the good Lord my Dad has done concrete for over 40 years) So this is no problem for him. I was hoping for a two week project...(I know laughable, Right?) Dad said it will be a lot longer than that :(. I am using this as a little journal of the project. I know it may bore some of you. But I want to be able to look back and see just how it went.

I hope you all have a blessed weekend!

Ripping It All Out

Hi there, I think everyone is busy because I have noticed a lack of posts from a lot of bloggers. I have been working my tail off and I feel beyond tired!  I got the call to start setting up my booth. This is a lot of work, and I still have more to go.  It is so fun and I am enjoying it immensely.(pics soon) Tomorrow morning my Dad will be here to start the tear out of the bathroom!!!
Yeah!!! I will not miss this at all.  Although I am not looking forward to the whole family using one bathroom.
As I typed that I realized we are definitely spoiled in the states. Some things thought, don't register, and then you say them out loud. Ouch! I know there are people who would be glad to have one bathroom. Sometimes I have to reel myself in. Give myself a little reality check, and be still and acknowledge how much God has blessed my family on this side of heaven. How is your week going?

Blessings,

Some Completed Projects and Auction Finds

Remember the dresser I bought off of craigslist? Well, this is the completed dresser minus the top pulls. They are now on. One was broken and I found a replacement on eBay.  I love how it turned out and it looked so lovely in the bedroom.
I painted this little statue... I think he is so cute!

This is the chandelier all painted and ready to go.... I love how it turned out.

Last night we went to an auction and I got a few good finds.... Like this mirror. For $30.00
I wanted one particular picture and they lotted them together with these not so attractive paintings...

This one isn't bad but it isn't my style, Levi likes it though.
This was the one I was after. I thought it was so pretty... I don't know if I can sell her I like her so much.

I got some pretty china.  For cheap.....
This is one of my favorite things... Do you know what it is? It is a gentleman's shaving chest. Inside were so many treasures. An old Masonic book written in secret code. It was copyrighted 1941.  Bullets with 1939 written on them and many other manly treasures....

Lastly is this wonderful floor lamp... It is old you can tell by the cord and just its general appearance. I am going to fix this up real cute..(fingers crossed)

I have been extremely busy trying to get it all together.  I am praying it will all turn out well. I can't help but have doubts about the whole thing...but I am in it to win it. Savanah has been helping me and so has Levi. My husband has also been amazing about helping me. He took me to the auction and stayed with me from 3:00-8:30. He got me drinks and M&M's.(love) We were looking around at the auction when I ran into my Aunt and Uncle doing the same thing. (great minds think alike) So it turned into a family affair! She got the most beautiful dollhouse and curio cabinet. We were two happy girls!  I hope you all are having a blessed weekend.

Practical Housekeeping 1877

It is becoming fashionable in these pinching times to economize and housekeepers are finding it a pleasant pastime to search out and stop wastes in household expenses and to exercise the thousand little economies which thoughtful and careful women understand so readily and practice with such grace. Somebody has said that a well to do French family would live on what an American household in the same condition of life wastes, and this may not be a great exaggeration.

Bathroom Makeover

I can't believe it but we are finally going to remodel our master bathroom..... it has been a long time comin'... Do you know what this is?
It is a hot tub and it is right off of the bedroom..... I know strange. But it is leavin' and I couldn't be happier to say good bye.
After you pass the hot tub you will find the bathroom. It is smaller for a master bath, it has a standard shower tub combo, a single sink, and a toilet.
But soon (the good Lord willing) we will have a new bathroom with a claw foot tub!!! I am so excited about this... My Dad will be overseeing this project.  And he said he will start tearing it out sometime next week! I have dreams and they include bubbles and a lot of hot water...;) I will keep you updated.
Here is one of the finished little stools (from my mom).... I was so excited because I painted the wire, and then I started to tear off the ugly yellow plastic cover on the little seat. Well guess what was underneath the cheap plastic.?.

The original 50's pink vinyl in perfect condition...so no cover needed!! I love it when something like that happens. I just scrubbed it with a little bleach and water and it was in great shape.
This is the before. ..I have been diligently working away on a whole lot of stuff for my booth. I am as excited as ever and can't wait to get started....Thank you  for all of your words of encouragement. It means so much....to have someone cheering you on. I hope your week is blessed.

Chair Makeover and an Antique Booth

O.K. it is time to let the cat out of the bag.... I am opening my own antique booth on February 1st! It is going to be in the Oviedo Antique Mall. Oviedo is right outside of East Orlando and very close to where I live.  My mom and I had a booth before but when I moved back to Orlando I had to give it up....But we had such fun together gathering and getting and changing and displaying... So I decided I would give it a whirl once again.... When I went to my parents this weekend my mom loaded me up with things....to remake or just dust and sell. Things that have been in her attic. First off was this little Farmhouse chair with the ugly oilcloth seat..... I painted the whole thing (including the oilcloth) with AS Chalk Paint and.....
wah-lah! a whole new chair. ( She gave me the cushion too) You can't see the detail in the pic,  but I roughed it up just a bit and waxed it. It is a sweet Farmhouse chic chair.
The great thing about this little business is my son is helping me each step of the way.. He is at the age where I can trust him to do a pretty good job on stuff. But I have to keep in mind he may make a mistake and I may have to fix it.  But you know he is loving it. After we do schoolwork and house work we head outback to the shed and work on the pieces....
I got this adorable dresser on craigslist. We have been painting away on it for a few afternoons.... The body is finished and we only have one more coat on the drawers...
I had to paint it because it wasn't in good enough condition to resell as is.
I love the little details on this dresser....from what I can gather I think it is from the 30's or 40's...if you know more let me know. When I went to get this dresser the lady was moving to England and asked me if I wanted....
This chair for $5.00....into the truck it went....it is in line for a makeover.
She then asked me if I would like this chandie for $10.00....into the truck it went.... along with several other free things... I could have taken more for free but I literally couldn't fit another thing in the vehicle.... I am so excited about my little and I do mean little (8x7) space! I am naming it CHANTILLY. What do you think? I just love it and I pray God will bless this little endeavour. So far my preparations have been blessed......and I am so excited!! I hope all of you are having a great new year and that you are blessed.....

My Project Reveal

Well I officially dislike burlap! At least sewing burlap...
I decided to make a little make- up case and I had the brilliant idea of using burlap.

It isn't as easy as I thought it would be... It wanted to shred and come apart.  I looked like I had been bailing hay for a while.

This is the finished bag... When I make more of these I will use cotton :)!
Did you all have a good weekend?  Mine was busy. We visited my parents.  Mom and I shopped at antique malls and thrift stores....our favorite thing to do... I got a few good things. I will share later.

Blessings,
Amy Jo

Spring Finds...

I ran into Goodwill today and came across some adorable spring finds... I broke my spoon rest a few months back so when I spied this one in my favorite color I couldn't get it in the buggy fast enough.

These little metal overalls are so cute! They will be adorable on the porch or in the laundry room. Don't ya think?
I have this strange obsession with pillowcases.... I can never have enough of them.

I have plenty believe me....but the good thing is there is always room for one more..hehe...
I hope you all are having a fabulous week .... I have had a lot of family all week, and now, as of this morning the last of the out of state visitors have left....I am still keeping my niece Sophia for the rest of the week. We are having so much fun....not doing much of anything. ;)

Time For Creativity

We have begun a new year!! I am hoping to make the most of this year... One of my goals is to be more creative. I have been wanting to make something for a while but it seems I never have the time. But no more excuses I am going to start.

I went to Jo Anne Fabrics and picked up a few items that I needed.....Can you guess what I'm making? I am not going to tell...I will show you when I am all done.

The Best of Bliss is out on the shelf and it is a lovely issue....you might want to pick up a copy.

They also have all of their ornaments 70% off. There wasn't much left but I picked this little angel up. I am going to repaint it in softer colors.( I already started when I remembered to take a pic)  I thought she was cute.

I also forgot to show you a couple of ornaments I got on eBay...

They are all packed up until next year...I just love them though. I thought you might like them too.... Now it is on to other holidays...and I am looking forward to Valentines Day...I picked up a wreath a while back at Goodwill, it needs tweaking and then I will show it to you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

XOXO,
AMY JO
